Backscattering in carbon nanotubes : role of quantum interference effects
The backscattering contribution to the conductivity, irrelevant for metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes, is proved to become much significant for doped semiconducting systems, in agreement with experiments. In the case of multi-walled nanotubes, the intershell coupling is further shown to enhance the contribution of backscattering for ”metallic” double-walled, whereas it remains insignifica...
متن کاملCoherent Control of Quantum Entropy via Quantum Interference in a Four-Level Atomic System
The time evaluation of quantum entropy in a four-level double- type atomic system is theoretically investigated. Quantum entanglement of the atom and its spontaneous emission fields is then discussed via quantum entropy. It is found that the degree of entanglement can be increased by the quantum interference induced by spontaneous emission. The phase dependence of the atom-field entanglement is...
متن کاملQuantum point contact microscopy.
We introduce quantum point contact microscopy (QPCM) as a novel method for surface characterization, where the conductance through a quantum point contact formed by a metal atom between the tip of a scanning tunneling microscope and the surface is mapped across the surface. Application of QPCM to copper and gold (111) shows reproducibly atomic resolution, on gold (111) the alternating atomic st...
متن کاملQuantum point contact in a compressible Quantum Hall liquid
We consider electron transport through a quantum point contact between compressible Quantum Hall liquids and derive the contact’s impedance function for both diffusive and ballistic regimes of the bulk electron motion. In either regime, the tunneling current deviates from a power-law behavior I ∼ V 1/ν expected on the basis of the single-mode chiral Luttinger liquid phenomenology.
متن کاملCounterflow of electrons in two isolated quantum point contacts.
We study the interaction between two adjacent but electrically isolated quantum point contacts (QPCs). At high enough source-drain bias on one QPC, the drive QPC, we detect a finite electric current in the second, unbiased, detector QPC. The current generated at the detector QPC always flows in the opposite direction than the current of the drive QPC. The generated current is maximal, if the de...
